The Municipality of Maitum in Sarangani Province is all set for the celebration of Bangsi Festival 2014 happening this coming January 29-31.
Bangsi Festival is now on its 7th year and has already become one of the most anticipated annual celebrations in Sarangani. The festival is named after Maitum's One Town, One Product (OTOP) - the delicious half-dried flying fish or "marinated bangsi". The celebration also honors the fisherfolk of Maitum.
Activities during this colorful celebration includes a coastal clean up drive and a celebrity concert on the 29th, fun run, zumba party, sand sculpture competition, banca race, the marinated bangsi preparation, bangsirit, trade fair and the search for Munting Mutya ng Maitum on January 30.
There is also an ONLINE PHOTO COMPETITION which is open to all photographers, amateur and professionals, to capture the colors and happenings in this year's Bangsi Festival and the different attractions in Maitum. The Bangsi Festival Parade is scheduled on the last day of the three days celebration (January 31, Friday) to be followed by the festival program, drum and lyre competition to be participated by different elementary and secondary schools in Maitum and the Sugba-sugba sa Kadalanan.
The colorful street dancing competition (Bangsiyawan) will begin at around 1 o'clock in the afternoon and a community program will be held in the evening at the municipal gym.
