His name is Mr. Marlon Ceballos, a mountain guide based in Kidapawan City. Sir Marlon was the guide assigned to my group during our trekking adventure to Mt. Apo last April 9-11, 2014. It was my first climb to the Philippines' highest peak (my story on a separate post) via the Mandarangan trail in Kidapawan City and I must say that the whole trek was made more fun, easy and memorable by Sir Marlon. He talked a lot during our trek, threw some jokes and answered every questions we asked him. He was very accommodating and handled all the participants very well including his assistant mountain guides and the porters. He was very generous too. Sir Marlon deserves to be one of the nominees in the "Tourism Star" search by the Department of Tourism.

Tourism Star Philippines is a recognition program to honor tourism frontliners or individuals who go the extra mile in giving the tourists (foreign or local) a delightful experience. These individuals exemplifies the true Filipino hospitality in their workplace. Nominees may come from the sectors of accommodation, travel agencies and tour operators; tour guides, tourist and transport and individual service providers to include entrepreneurs, frontline government employees and policemen, among others.
The program also honors the Local Chief Executives whose leaderships and programs for tourism have created a positive impact in their community.
The deadline for submission of nominations is on May 31, 2014. The awarding ceremony will be held in September 2014, during the Tourism Week celebration.
