The City Government of Tacurong earned another national recognition as it was recently named Champion for Health Governance, along with four (4) other LGUs from all over the
country.
Given by Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership and the Jesse Robredo Foundation, with the support of the Department of the
Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health, the Champions for Health Governance (CHG) Awards recognizes top performing Local Government Units (LGUs) for their excellent and efficient implementation of local health programs in line with United Nations' Millenium Development Goals reducing child mortality rates; improving maternal health; and reducing incidences of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, and
DOH’s Kalusugan Pangkalahatan which aims to achieve universal health care for all Filipinos.
This year's Champions for Health Governance Awardees are Cervantes, Ilocos Sur; Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte; Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; Jimenez, Misamis Occidental; and Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. Each of the winning LGUs received a cash of P100,000 and P500,000 worth of medical supplies and materials.
Other LGUs that made it as finalists were Davao City, Valenzuela City, San Fernando City in La Union, Cabiao in Nueva Ecija, Maitum in Sarangani, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, and
Teresa in the Province Rizal.
The awarding ceremony was held on May 29, 2015 in Greenhills, San Juan City.
