Another highly anticipated event in the region every month of December is the Shariff Kabunsuan Festival of Cotabato City.
Usually held from December 15-19, this colorful festival celebrates the arrival of Shariff Kabunsuan, an Arab-Malay missionary who is believed to be the one who introduced Islam in Mindanao during the 16th century.
This year, among the activities lined up for Shariff Kabunsuan Festival includes cultural presentations, product showcase, trade forum, hijabi fashion show, cultural exchange, grand parade and the highlights - the Kuyog street dancing competition to be participated by different schools in Cotabato City, the fluvial parade of colorful decorated bancas or "guinakit" along the Rio Grande de Mindanao, and the "Pagana Maguindanao" a traditional way of dining among Maranaos and Maguindanaons in honor of special guests.
