Facebook is a powerhouse app that has truly changed our human culture. As social media has climbed in importance, Facebook has dominated with over one billion users. And it is said that over 8% of those are assumed to be fake users, created to spy and stalk with few barriers.
Meeting People
- Before Facebook one likely had to leave one’s home to meet another human being. No more!
- Having connections with your Facebook Friends, it is now simple and discreet for someone to make your acquaintance.
- It is now possible for total strangers to “follow” people on Facebook, no introductions necessary.
- On a certain level, Facebook is a hookup Den o’ Sin. There is no way to know who is doing what with whom, well, unless you are Facebook itself, who is always watching!
- Before Facebook it was often quite costly to keep in contact with someone a great distance from you in any sort of real-time manner.
- Long distance phone calls used to be quite pricey and snail-mail was named thus for a reason.
- Email did help bridge distances, but Facebook erases distance.
- It is as easy to keep in near constant contact through Facebook with someone who lives on the other side of the planet as it is with someone living next door.
- Facebook has truly become the global village.
- Before Facebook we often lost touch with people from our past.
- We would lose addresses, or phone numbers, or just the confidence to reach out to someone we had not seen in a while.
- Sometimes that was a good thing. When we had bad breakups or left a job that we did not like, we could gently burn some bridges and simply move on, unencumbered by continuing contact after we left.
- Now that is rarely possible. It is unlikely that you can leave a relationship and, even if you block your ex, not still see posts from Friends that relate.
- This rings true for work as well, more clearly than ever, you never truly leave anything or anyone behind.
- Before Facebook we either relied on witnessing something happen or hearing someone tell us that it happened.
- Now we read minute and detailed information about all of our Facebook Friends that they post themselves.
- While the pitfalls of gossip and repeated stories losing accuracy with repetition are lessened now, some feel that Facebook is simply TMI - too much information.
- Because Facebook offers the ability to post photos and video, we also do not need to rely strictly on someone’s word that something happened. They offer hard visual proof that they had a wonderful salad for lunch!
- Though, along with the development of Facebook has grown the development of image manipulation. Having a profile photo “shopped” to made you look somewhat beyond your very best is common and accepted. Who really knows what they do with news photos and if the tail is wagging the dog.
