As part of the Tuna Festival celebration, General Santos City or Gensan attempted to set a new Guinness World record for the largest fish display on Thursday, September 11, 2014.
According to reports, around 33,610 kilograms or 33.61 metric tons of fresh tuna catch were gathered, weighed and displayed in just about 15 minutes. The figure surpassed the record of 2,271.7 kg of seafood set by Schmidt Zeevis in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2011. The Guinness World Record attempt was held at General Santos Fish Fort Complex and particpated by hundreds of fish port workers.
Although there was no adjudicator from Guinness present during the attempt, the entire activity was well documented and recorded. Organizers said that documentations and records will be immediately submitted to Guinness World Records office in London for confirmation. Result of the attempt is expected to be out in a week.
